Iván Enrique Rodríguez Selected for The Atlanta Opera’s 96-Hour Opera Festival
Composer Iván Enrique Rodríguez has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious 2025 96-Hour Opera Festival, hosted by The Atlanta Opera. This highly competitive festival, taking place from June 17-21, 2025, offers an incredible opportunity for emerging composers and librettists to create brand-new 10-minute operas in just 96 hours.
Rodríguez will collaborate with librettist Laura Barati to bring their work to life, with the support of The Atlanta Opera’s talented performers and specialists. The teams will develop their operas for a public showcase on Saturday, June 21, at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center at Morehouse College. The winning team will receive $10,000 as part of a $25,000 commission for a one-act work to be performed in a future season.
The 96-Hour Opera Festival encourages the participation of creators from underrepresented groups in opera, and this selection highlights Rodríguez’s role in shaping the future of the genre with his unique, socially conscious storytelling.
