ProArte Musical • Rodríguez’ Masterclass on his music • Voices: Identity, Motifs, and Counterpoint.
In an initiative to extend its educational work, the Música Abierta (Open Music) program of Pro Arte Musical will present a special series of online master classes through its Facebook page. Classes are free and will be offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:00 pm. As part of this initiative Rodríguez was invited to offer a masterclass on his music and composition process. The masterclass, titled Voces: Identidad, Motivos, y Contrapunto (Voices: Identity, Motifs, and Counterpoint) will take the word “Voice” as a poetic image to cover 3 idiosyncratic elements of his compositional process:
The Voice of his Puerto Rican identity as a composition technique
The use of Motifs as an element of cohesion and development
The Voice as counterpoint element and density
The masterclass will focus on the works “¡Oh Mar, no Esperes Más!,” “Alabaster Thread,” “on Being” and “Las Puertas de Cuerno y Marfil” with the possibility of including additional pieces to provide examples and answer questions from the participants. With the purpose of investigating his composition process and provide anyone interested in musical creation with a different perspective, the class will also provide useful tools applicable to their creative process. In addition to that, it will serve as a kind of musical appreciation through the composition craft that can offer an educational experience for a deeper enjoyment of classical music in general.
