NYFOS Presents "Learning, Fast and Slow": A Concert Exploring the Journey of Self-Discovery Through Music
On September 29th, the New York Festival of Song (NYFOS) will present "Learning, Fast and Slow," an insightful concert that will feature the composition “Mamá María” by Rodríguez, performed by talented bassoonist Steven Palacio with piano accompaniment. This event promises a rich tapestry of musical styles, designed to illuminate the concepts of rapid and reflective learning through song.
Curator Nathaniel LaNasa reflects on the theme of the concert: “When I was ten, I knew exactly who I was. When I was twenty, I had all the answers. When I turned thirty… I thought at least I had the right questions? The more I experience the world, the more I discover I have no idea.” This admission sets the foundation for a program that examines the passage of time and the lessons learned at different stages of life.
The concert will include works that delve into themes of aging by Kamala Sankaram, the concepts of repetition explored by Theo Chandler, and the premiere of a birthday song by Timo Andres. Additionally, LJ White’s two pieces will address moments of queer discovery, illustrating the dynamic and transformative nature of identity. These selections celebrate the fleeting moments of clarity and reflection that contribute to personal growth, inviting the audience to engage in an enriching experience of music and discovery.
