El Abrigo Negro (The Black Coat) is a descriptive work aspiring to narrate the short story of the same name by Russian author Lyudmila Petrushevskaya. Different musical motifs are used throughout the piece to describe the skewed situations and emotions the protagonist experiences during a series of surreal vicissitudes. From disorienting darkness to the struggle of escape, from the bewildered confusion and unresolved limbo to fleeting moments of hope to tortuous reality, El Abrigo Negro provides an enigmatic journey for Piano, Violin and Cello through the lugubrious and sinister descriptions of Lyudmila Petrushevskaya’s storytelling.
